Open source visual mapping tool

I've been looking for a good open source tool to map a network analysis to no avail.

So any suggestions welcomed.

I have found however, this great mind mapping tool.

what would be good to explore in our '23 things' programme is the use of personal 'jumping off' pages I use one called protopage. some options that students might use to organise their learning environment are compared at http://mivanova.blogspot.com/2008/06/start-pages-as-environments-for-self.html
